– Top Gun: Maverick –
This long-awaited sequel has received unanimous acclaim for its combination of action sequences and human drama.
Maverick is called back to the Top Gun programme – not to fly, but to teach the “best of the best” how to blow up a uranium enrichment plant at face-melting velocity,
There is a flight plan that sounds nuts and a scheme that will require all successful Top Gun recruits to fly at dangerously low altitudes. The film has protracted stunning aerial action scenes shot without CGI. Scripted by Christopher McQuarrie, who wrote “The Usual Suspects”, the film is meant to be funny haha and funny ridiculous but what’s impressive is how McQuarrie, producer-star Cruise and director Joseph Kosinski have excavated genuine emotion from the material.
The outrageously effective theme song is by Lady Gaga.

The belated follow-up “Top Gun: Maverisck” is as thrilling as blockbusters get………. It’s the kind of edge-of-your-seat, fist-pumping spectacular that can unite an entire room full of strangers sitting in the dark and leave them with a wistful tear in their eye.
Josepj Kosinki’s joyous “Top Gun: Maverick” not only matches the original but also, in certain areas, is an improvement. It feels familiar………. and it’s delivered with so much oomph and affection — with a slight undertow of melancholy — that it’s impossible not to get swept up.
Joseph Kosinski forges stunning flying sequences that fuel the blood.
More appealing than the prospect of the bonkers mission here is the human drama…, the tone of “Maverick” strikes a fine balance between good-humored vanity and half-serious self-deprecation, complete with plenty of quotable zingers and emotional moments that catch one off-guard.
Irresistible Tom Cruise soars in a blockbuster sequel………Personally, I found myself powerless to resist; overawed by the ‘“real flight” aeronautics and nail-biting sky dances, bludgeoned by the sugar-frosted glow of Cruise’s mercilessly engaging facial muscles, and shamefully brought to tears by moments of ‘hate-yourself-for-going-with-it’ manipulation..
Tom Cruise flies again in a glorious pulse-quickening sequel…………The three credited screenwriters……… have honoured that loose’n’easy tradition without it ever feeling crass or hackneyed. ……….no one, obviously, watches a “Top Gun” movie for the tears (although bring a hankie) and the spectacle here has certainly gone stratospheric…The results are often breath-taking.
