Pre-eminent among British fighter planes of the Second World War, the classic Supermarine Spitfire with its superlative engine and technically brilliant design was first made operational by No.19 Squadron RAF at Duxford in 1938.
Dr Lewis, who volunteers at Duxford and who has taught at the University of Liverpool and in schools, will talk about the origins of the Spitfire and the personnel, both flying and non-flying, who were serving with the squadron at the time.
