Halloween Special -Mainstream Feature Film – “Sinners”

Set in the Jim Crow South, “Sinners” follows identical twins Smoke and Stack Moore (both played by Michael B. Jordan),  World War I veterans and former Chicago mobsters.    Returning to 1932 Mississippi,  they seek a fresh start in their hometown of Clarksdale.  Using stolen money, they purchase an abandoned sawmill and transform it into a juke joint, aiming to create a space for the local African American community to gather, celebrate music, and find joy.
The twins recruit a colourful team to help run the club: Delta Slim (Delroy Lindo) as the headlining musician, Cornbread (Omar Benson Miller) as bouncer and Annie (Wunmi Mosaku) as cook and local supplier for food and drink.   Their younger cousin Sammie (Miles Caton), a gifted blues musician, also joins despite his preacher father’s warnings that blues music is sinful.
As the juke joint thrives, the brothers confront a supernatural evil awakened by Sammie’s music and grapple with family, community and moral dilemas.  Certificate (15)
